Biological Science Technician (Plants and Wildlife)

This position, Biological Science Technician (Plants and Wildlife), GS-0404-06 FPL 07 is duty stationed in the Resource Management Division at Fort Necessity National Battlefield in Farmington, PA. This position may perform work on local travel to the four other park units in Western Pennsylvania to include:
Allegheny Portage RR National Historic Site, Johnstown Flood National Memorial, Flight 93 National Memorial, Friendship Hill National Historic Site. Work is often done independently, collaborating with supervision from Biologist, consultation with Maintenance Division, and Regional Office Resource managers. Major Duties are as follows:
-Implements a new natural resource management program including reforestation of the Flight 93 memorial site (trees are planted each year in collaboration with park partner), identify and survey exotic plant treatments through chemical, manual and mechanical methods. -Wildlife duties include nuisance small animal control. -Office work consists of using GIS to map and document projects using spreadsheets, data bases and word processing programs. -Field work varies from standing, walking, and hiking over rough terrain and physical labor such as vegetation thinning, carrying a three-gallon backpack sprayer and operating manual and mechanical equipment. -Works with volunteer and partner groups involves weekend work on resource management projects. -The use of standard pesticide field safety equipment will be required as well as the use of global positioning systems and on-and-off road vehicles. -Collects and organizes field data, and maintains integrated pest management records. -Required to hold a certified state pesticide technician license which can/will be obtained during employment. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. To qualify for this position, Biological Science Technician (Plants and Wildlife) at the GS-0404-06 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualification by close of the announcement:
SPECIALIZED
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes:
1)following instructions and procedures to collect and organize field data related to natural resource management; 2)utilizing various techniques to gather biological samples; 3)identifying, measuring, counting and testing organisms or environment; 4)recording data; 5)performing a variety of behavioral or measured data collection activities; 6)utilizing resource management equipment (e.g. tools, traps, sampling, monitoring, photographic and laboratory equipment); 7)vegetation management techniques Research activity or controlled program work; 8)Nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment.
